WASHINGTON, D.C., June 15, 2026 – On April 28, 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) filed a complaint against Mason Solis of Floresville, Texas, for alleged violations of the Packers and Stockyards (P&S) Act.
A USDA investigation found that between the months of April 2024 and May 2024, Solis failed to pay $373,348 for 274 head of livestock purchased from seven sellers, in violation of the P&S Act. The P&S Act requires regulated entities to issue full payment for livestock by the close of the first business day following the purchase and transfer of possession. As of the date of the complaint, the full balance remained unpaid.
In addition, during the same months, Solis issued 10 nonsufficient funds checks to six livestock sellers in the amount of $269,768, in violation of the P&S Act. Solis also engaged in the business of purchasing livestock as a dealer without obtaining the required bond or bond equivalent.
The Secretary of Agriculture has authority to take action against violators, including issuing cease and desist orders, suspending registrations, and imposing other remedies authorized by the P&S Act.
