Washington, D.C., May 13, 2026 – On April 9, 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) filed a complaint against Jonathan C. Anderson and Anderson Farm Enterprises, LLC of Science Hill, Ky., for alleged violations of the Packers and Stockyards (P&S) Act.
A USDA Agricultural Marketing Service investigation revealed that from July 7, 2021, through Oct. 6, 2021, Anderson purchased 113 head of livestock in nine transactions for a total purchase price of $67,416. In each of these transactions, Anderson engaged in the business of buying and selling in commerce without being properly registered or maintaining an adequate bond or bond equivalent.
The P&S Act requires livestock dealers to be properly registered and maintain a bond or bond equivalent as a measure of payment protection for livestock sellers. Failure to do so is a violation of the P&S Act and regulations.
The Secretary of Agriculture has authority to take action against violators, including issuing orders to cease and desist, suspending registrations, and applying other appropriate remedies as authorized by the P&S Act.
