Washington, D.C., May 18, 2026 – On Aug. 1, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a Decision and Order Without Hearing by Reason of Default against Alwatania Meat Corp. of East Elmhurst, N.Y., for violations of the Packers and Stockyards (P&S) Act.

A USDA investigation revealed between April 26, 2021, and Aug. 3, 2021, Alwatania engaged in the business of a packer, buying 1,863 head of livestock in commerce for purposes of slaughter for a total purchase price of $526,748, without maintaining an adequate bond or bond equivalent. Alwatania also failed to pay timely for 264 of those head of cattle, for a total purchase price of $72,358. The P&S Act requires livestock dealers to post an adequate bond or bond equivalent and issue full payment for livestock by the close of the first business day following purchase and transfer of possession.

Under the Default Decision and Order, Alwatania was ordered to cease and desist from operating as a packer without an adequate bond and failing to pay, when due, the full purchase price of livestock. Alwatania is also prohibited from operating subject to the P&S Act until an adequate bond is obtained.

The Secretary of Agriculture has authority to take action against violators, including issuing cease and desist orders, suspending registrations, and imposing other remedies authorized by the P&S Act.
